  • 330 g self raising flour
  • 360 g granulated sugar
  • 360 g butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 30 g unsweetened black cocoa powder
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 90 ml milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 400 g butter (salted)
  • 800 g powdered sugar (icing sugar)
  • 1¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk or cream (optional – if the buttercream is too stiff)
  • Electric green food coloring (a few drops)
  • 250 g Orange fondant
  • 200 g Black fondant
  • 1 tbsp CMC powder
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch baking pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in milk and vanilla.
  3. In another bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  4. Divide batter between the pans and bake for about 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. For the buttercream, beat together butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Mix in vanilla and add food coloring to achieve your desired shade.
  6. Crumble the cooled cakes into jars, layering with buttercream until filled. Top with extra frosting.
  7. Decorate with rolled fondant witch legs and sprinkles as desired.
