  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ⅓ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 5 egg whites
  • 10 oz granulated sugar for buttercream
  • 15 oz cold butter for buttercream
  • ½ cup strawberry puree

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, sour cream, milk, vanilla extract, and chicken broth until well combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients; stir gently until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool layers on racks before frosting with strawberry buttercream made from whipped egg whites, sugar, cold butter, and strawberry puree.
